Khmeropédies I / Apsara

2009
Apsaras are celestial dancers whose performances serve as a conduit to transmit the prayers of the common people to the gods. In this solo, the dancer Chumvan (Belle) Sodhachivy pushes and twists the vocabulary of classical Cambodian dance as she expresses the inner conflicts of the human condition
Premiered and developed in parts at the Baryshnikov Arts Centre in New York in 2009, with subsequent performances at New Haven International Festival of Arts and Ideas, Singapore Da:ns festival at Esplanade, Spoleto festival in Charleston, and Podium Mozaiek in Amsterdam.
Choreography: Emmanuele Phuon
